Suriname Nightlife Guide 2026: Where to Party in Paramaribo

Think you’ve seen it all? Think again. The nightlife in Paramaribo is a vibrant explosion of Caribbean beats, Dutch and Asian influences, and South American energy. Whether you're looking for an elite VIP lounge or a massive street party that shakes the city's foundations, Suriname delivers.

Planning your trip? Check all party dates and info on our Events Calendar.

1. The Epicenter: "De Strip" (Kleine Waterstraat)

Most partygoers start their night at Kleine Waterstraat. This area is packed with bars and clubs within walking distance of each other.

  • 't Vat: The ultimate meeting point. Start your night here with a cold Parbo Beer on the terrace to watch the city come alive.

  • Next Club: The place for the "glitterati." Expect high-end service, international level DJs, and a strict dress code.

  • Club Tequila: If you want raw energy, Afrobeats, and Dancehall, this is your home.

  • D'Bar: The place you end your night or start your morning?

2. Legendary Annual Events

Suriname doesn't just "party"; it hosts events that are world-class. If you can time your visit, aim for these:

  • Owru Yari (New Year’s Eve): Imagine miles of red firecrackers (Pagara) exploding in the streets at noon, followed by a city-wide street party that lasts until sunrise. It is arguably the best NYE celebration in the world.

  • Phagwa (Holi): A festival of color celebrated everywhere in Suriname by everyone. Tons of parties. The top festivals are most likely held at Boulevard by Lustig Events, Palementuin (Palm Garden) and Onafhankelijkheidsplein.

3. Pro-Tips for the International Partygoer

To party like a local, you need to know the "unwritten rules":

  1. Don't Show Up Early: The clubs only start pumping after 1:00 AM. Use the earlier hours for a "pre-game" dinner at the Waterkant or Waka Pasi

  2. Dress Code: While Suriname is tropical, the clubs are fancy. Men: avoid shorts and flip-flops for the big clubs. Women: High heels and "dress to impress" are the standard.

  3. Late Night Cravings: After the club, head to a Blauwgrond for late-night Javaanse Saoto soup or a spicy Roti at Kwatta Market. It’s the ultimate hangover cure.
